  • All students are required to meet with an academic advisor prior to enrolling for a period of assistance in planning degree programs and courses that will count toward degree requirements. Failure to meet with the academic advisor prior to enrolling in a semester may result in penalties. After the required freshman advisory session, students are encouraged to contact their student advisor if they are considering adding or removing courses.Students have ultimate responsibility for the accuracy of their application, the applicability of their courses to course requirements, and their academic performance.

    1. Student-Athletes:You must complete a withdrawal form from the athletic department before dropping out of a course. You can obtain a submission form from your sports studies advisor. This is to review the impact of the fall on your athletic participation and support and to advise you on your athletic fitness. After completing a submission form, the Director of Athletics Admissions and Eligibility will process the submission for you. You have the choice to leave a course.

    2. International students:If a fall lasts less than 12 hours, you should contact the International Center. After consultation, the International Office will adjust the minimum number of hours for international UG students for the spring or fall semester to less than 12 hours.Failure to meet the busy schedule can result in deportation.

    3. Students with merit or in need of financial support:If a course withdrawal lasts less than 12 hours, you should consult your financial advisor before attempting to withdraw from a course. Your finance advisor can tell you how the fall will affect your assistance. After the consultation, you can edit a self-service drop in my.SMU if you choose to do so.If you have any questions about this process or your benefit, please contact your benefit advisor.

  • All students are required to provide the University Secretariat with a current residential and postal (local) address, mobile and/or home phone number, and emergency contact (including missing person contact). In "My Profile" (left navigation) and "General Information" all students are required to provide accurate information upon request. Missing information leads to a hold.
  • All currently enrolled students will be assigned a task asking them to verify/update any personal information. A registration lock is applied at the time of assignment of this task. After a student completes this assignment, the hold is released.

    University policy requires all students to have a current residential address, (local) postal address and telephone number and, if available, a mobile phone number. Students may have other address types on file, including a home address where you currently reside (street number, street name, city, state --- a PO Box is not valid for this address type).

    INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS must have a US home, mailing and residential address. A HOLD will be requested for students who do not provide a US address.

    Students wishing to receive financial aid for the 2022-23 academic year must complete a 2022-23 FAFSA and 2022-23 CSS profile.

    These forms must be completed by15. APRILfor priority consideration. All other requested documents must be submitted by July 1st. (Includes verification, proof of citizenship, non-custodial parent information, etc.);Due to the current economic situation, we are seeing an increased demand for subsidies.Please respond promptly to all requests for financial assistance.

    Students wishing to receive financial aid for the 2022-23 academic year must submit the 2022-23 FAFSA.

    Check your email regularly for updates or requests for additional information from the Financial Aid Office. Price notifications will be sent to your SMU email account in early June. Remember that all bans must be cleared prior to enrollment.
